Hull FC have confirmed the release of youngster Nick Staveley on the eve of the new Super League season. It comes following reports by League Express and Hull Live that the 21-year-old is on the verge of joining up with Castleford Tigers.
Staveley was in the final year of his contract with the Black and Whites and leaves the club after making just eight appearances in the first-team fold. The forward was coming off the back of the ACL injury he suffered at the start of last season and he seems to have fallen down the pecking order during his time on the sidelines.
As such, he was always likely to find opportunities hard to come by under John Cartwright this season and the club have made the decision to let him go in order to pursue other opportunities.
Staveley joined Hull in 2021 after a spell in Warrington Wolves’ academy and he went on to make his debut for the club in May 2023 against the Tigers. He scored a try for the club in a win over London Broncos last season before his injury setback.
As such, he’ll be hoping to kick on and make the most of his opportunity at Wheldon Road as he strives to establish himself within the senior game.
A statement released on the Hull FC website read: “Hull FC can confirm that Nick Staveley has departed the club with immediate effect.
“The 21-year old back-rower, who has made eight appearances for the club since his debut in 2023, has been released from the remainder of his contract to pursue opportunities elsewhere in the game.
“The club wishes Nick the very best for his future endeavours in Rugby League and beyond, and thank him for his efforts in Black & White.”
