Hull FC release statement as Jordan Abdull exit confirmed

Hull FC have released a statement to confirm the release of half-back Jordan Abdull. Abdull was one of 10 signings made by the Black and Whites ahead of the 2025 Super League season, with Hull recruiting heavily ahead of John Cartwright’s arrival.

The playmaker penned a three-year deal to return to the club where he started his career and he got his second spell in west Hull underway in November as John Cartwright got pre-season training underway.

Unfortunately, the last couple of months have not been without their difficulties for Abdull with a knee injury hampering the amount of time he has been able to spend on the training field. Speaking to Hull Live, Cartwright admitted Abdull was behind schedule in his recovery and might require surgery.

However, just a few days later, the same publication broke the news that Abdull had been released from his contract. The club have now moved to confirm that Abdull has left the club with a short statement published on their official website claiming the decision was made to allow him to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

“Hull FC can confirm that Jordan Abdull has departed the club with immediate effect,” the statement reads.

“The club have taken the decision to release the player from the remainder of his contract at the MKM Stadium to allow him to explore opportunities elsewhere in the game.

“The club wishes Jordan all the very best for his future in Rugby League and beyond.”

The decision will come as something of a setback to Abdull on the eve of the new season, especially after the pivot’s last year or two in the game, which have been testing to say the least. Abdull was restricted to just 14 games through injury for Hull KR in 2023 and last January he was allowed to leave Craven Park to join Catalans Dragons on loan.

Injuries prevented him from gaining real traction in the south of France, but he did make 16 outings for the Dragons prior to his switch to Hull. Abdull’s next steps remain unknown, with the 28-year-old entering the free agency market at a difficult period.

Yet another kick for a good kid.
Always played his hardest for KR. Sadly his body lets him down for such a tough game
Hope his health improves and he finds some happiness in his life
