Hull FC register big win against Toulouse Olympique with Will Smith impressing on debut

Jack Walker has returned to Hull FC, making the transfer move from rivals Hull KR

Hull FC took on Toulouse Olympique in the south of France tonight, hoping to get back on the horse following a dismal 46-18 loss to the Castleford Tigers last weekend.

It was the French side that were the quickest out of the blocks with James Cunningham making the most of a Josh Simm error to pounce on six minutes.

Credit to the Black and Whites, however, they came storming back and it was Simm who atoned for that earlier mistake with a four-pointer after yet another assist from maverick Jake Connor. Luke Gale converted to level the scores at 6-6.

Ellis Longstaff added another try, but the French side thought they had scored before the break only for the pass to be brought back for being forward as Hull lead 10-6 at the break.

Anthony Marion was sinbinned early in the second-half after a dangerous tackle on Jordan Johnstone, with Will Smith and Jack Brown scoring to push Hull out to a 22-6 lead.

A Gale penalty made it a three-score game at 24-6 before Harvey Barron capped off a wonderful result with a try six minutes from time. However, Hull did have to contend with a bad-looking injury to youngster Matty Laidlaw.

The win sent Hull back into the top six, leapfrogging Hull KR who went down 46-4 to the Wigan Warriors last night.
