Hull FC man Yusuf Aydin has spoken of a ‘refreshing and exciting start’ to time with new head coach John Cartwright.
Playing both at prop and loose-forward in 2024, he made the switch from city rivals Hull KR after the season had started.
Originally a loan deal, it was then confirmed that he had signed on a permanent basis with a contract through 2026.
He was voted player of the month for Hull FC in July, and the former Wakefield Trinity man was one of just a few bright sparks in what was a chastening season for the Black and Whites.
Hull FC man talks “refreshing” pre-season under John Cartwright
Speaking to club media, Aydin noted the impact that new head coach John Cartwright has had already.
He said: “It’s been a refreshing and exciting start. There’s definitely been a lot of positive change around the place.
“It’s very noticeable and clear what the intent is for 2025 and we’ve had a positive start to pre-season.
“He was very adamant and strong on setting high standards right throughout, as well as the values we place on ourselves and every single person at the club, whether that’s a team mate, a coach or a member of staff.
“We must make sure that whatever we do both on and off the field is for the benefit of the club as a whole and that’s got to be our attitude.”
He also accepted that last season wasn’t good enough – with just three wins across the entire campaign.
The player added: “Just after last year, we just can’t allow that to happen again. So I’ve been working hard in the off-season to make sure I can put my best foot forward at the start of pre-season.
“I still feel like there’s plenty for me to give out on the field in 2025. I believe I can take my own game to another level this season and that’s with the benefit of the whole club in mind.
“It would be really nice to be able to see the people who watch us from the stands with smiles on their faces again and we’ll be giving it everything to make sure we can deliver for them – that’s the main thing and it all comes back to those standards that Carty discussed with us from the get go.”
