Paul Cooke will forever be remembered on both sides of the Humber river.
After becoming a legend with Hull FC, taking the Black and Whites to glory at the Challenge Cup in 2005, the halfback infamously swapped one side of the city for the other, joining KR in a high-profile move.
However, being at the top of Super League for so long takes some doing, so Cooke knows exactly what he is talking about when it comes to identifying halfback talent.
As such, he has called on Brett Hodgson to try and bring in Salford Red Devils playmaker Brodie Croft, who Cooke has been impressed with.
“I don’t know if the Salford halfback Brodie Croft would be available but if they could go and get him out of the Red Devils, I would go and get him,” Cooke wrote in his Hull Live column.
“He looks like a real player to me and at 24 has his best years ahead of him. He’s played at a high level, at Salford he’s played at a consistent level and bringing him in would be a way of reducing that average age.”
Hull at present are going about their business quietly and are now in the top four of Super League, but they have had problems at halfback in 2022 with Luke Gale and Josh Reynolds spending time on the sidelines through suspension and injuries.
In fact, the Black and Whites have looked the most impressive with new recruit Joe Lovodua in the halves alongside youngster Ben McNamara, but it remains to be seen what route Hodgson goes down for 2023 and beyond.
