A number of Super League players will be under the disciplinary microscope as Magic Weekend approaches. Referees had a busy week in Super League with two red cards and six yellows being shown over the course of round nine and it promises to be a busy morning for the Match Review Panel.
The round started with a Warrington Wolves win as they saw off St Helens with relative ease to get back to winning ways after back to back losses in Super League.
Hull KR then had to come from behind as they beat Leeds Rhinos at Headingley on Friday night. Two red cards and a yellow were dished out in that game, with Rovers coming good to maintain their spot at the top of the table.
Castleford Tigers claimed a much-needed victory and in doing so, piled the misery on Huddersfield Giants who remain winless. Leigh Leopards made short of work Salford Red Devils, while Catalans Dragons needed golden point to edge out Wakefield Trinity in the tightest clash of the round.
Sunday saw Wigan Warriors cruise to a 36-12 win over Hull FC to keep the pressure up on the Robins at the top of the table.
Here, we look at the Super League players will be nervously waiting for the disciplinary verdict to be released.
Super League players sweating disciplinary after Round Nine
After the first red card of the season was dished out in Rivals Round to Cade Cust, we had two reds in one game as Sauaso Sue and Ash Handley were both dismissed for making contact with the head.
Both decisions have received criticism and Rovers and Leeds will be hoping the panel see the sense required not to hand out any further punishment. Jack Sinfield was sent to the sin bin in the same game for a high shot, which many believe was worse than the reds that were dished out in the second half.
Joe Westerman was given a yellow in Castleford’s win over Huddersfield, while Isaiah Vagana and Luke Keary will be fearing the worst after their high tackles as Wakefield Trinity took on Catalans Dragons. Those decisions were followed by Mason Lino’s yellow, which came in golden point and probably cost Trinity the game from that point.
Liam Knight received the last card of the round as he saw yellow with just a few minutes to go in Hull FC’s loss to Wigan Warriors for a late hit on the passer.
