Hull FC boss John Cartwright has given an injury update after seeing both Herman Ese’ese and Ed Chamberlain pick injuries in the loss to Leeds Rhinos.
The Black and Whites were soundly beaten at the MKM Stadium, losing 34-0 and shipping six tries on what was a firmly miserable afternoon in East Yorkshire. The defeat came at a cost as well as Ese’ese and Chamberlain limped out of the action within a few minutes of each other in the first half.
Ese’ese picked up a lower leg injury and had to be helped down the tunnel, while Chamberlain, who has been blighted with injuries this year, suffered a hamstring problem.
However, Cartwright also revealed concerns around Liam Watts and Cade Cust in the aftermath of the clash with the Rhinos.
“I don’t know with Herman,” Cartwright said after the game. “It’s a lower leg injury and he can’t put any weight on it. I haven’t spoken to the doctors or the physios yet. We’ll know more next week.
“Ed has done a hammy, by the looks of it. Watts is tight in the hammy and we’ll have to check that through the week.
“Cade has got a bit of a back issue. Those are the main ones.”
The Black and Whites bounce from this game straight into a derby clash with Hull KR at Craven Park and with Jed Cartwright, Liam Knight, Will Pryce and John Asiata already ruled out, it’s fair to say they are running low on numbers.
“We are – and especially in the middles,” Cartwright added. “In periods of the game, we had Brad Fash, Yusuf and Matty Laidlaw in the middle of the field.
“They tried their backsides off, but they’re pretty big boys those Leeds boys and it was similar to St Helens last week – we got some injuries and we lacked a little bit of size in the middle.”
Asked if Sam Eseh would be fit after missing the last two with a hamstring issue, the head coach said: “I think Sam Eseh is about 50/50.”
