Hull FC head coach John Cartwright has confirmed a number of fresh injury blows ahead of the game against Wigan Warriors.
The Black and Whites host the Super League champions on Friday night with Hull FC hoping to extend their three-game winning streak when hosting Wigan at home in Super League.
They’re also looking to build on their surprise victory over Catalans Dragons in Round One of the competition with John Cartwright’s side coming out as 22-4 victors in Perpignan.
That game saw FC lose a number of players with Cartwright confirming the severity of the injuries to BBC Radio Humberside this week, whilst also outlining a possible delay in when one signing will make their debut.
Among those to leave the field against Catalans and to be confirmed out for Friday’s game are Jed Cartwright and Amir Bourouh with hamstring and HIA blows respectively affecting them.
On second-rower Cartwright, the head coach said: “He’ll be out for a couple of weeks. He’s got a low level strain, but it is a strain. It’s hard to gauge with a hamstring, but it’s not a bad one. We’re hoping that he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”
He also confirmed that Amir Bourouh is “good” but HIA protocols mean the hooker must miss Friday’s game.
Cartwright explained: “That’s sort of out of our hands. He’s got to tick some boxes between now and when we pick a side next week.
“He’s good, I spoke to him this morning, he’s in good spirits. He’s got a clear head at the moment, so hopefully he’ll only be the week.”

Having named his squad, there was a boost when Jack Ashworth was named given the forward had left the field for a head injury assessment, however, Ashworth is at risk of not playing.
Cartwright revealed: “He’s not real well, he’s got a bit of a bug at the moment, so on the back of his head knock, yeah, he’ll be in some doubt.”
Ed Chamberlain has returned but fellow former Leigh man Oliver Holmes still awaits is Super League debut with the Black and Whites.
Asked about the forward, Cartwright said: “No, he won’t be available. He’s still carrying a bit of a knee.
“He’ll see a specialist this week, so we’ll have a bit of an idea once he sees a specialist.”
The Hull FC head coach is expecting a major response from Wigan after their loss as he put their misfiring attack in Round One down to the fact it is Round One.
“There will be. I wouldn’t expect anything less from them either,” he said when asked if Wigan will bring a big response.
“They’re competitive every time they play. They must have a really good strong leadership group, strong coaching group. They play for a great club, there’s a lot of success around them. They’re sort of carrying it on as well.
“Every side’s a little bit rusty at the start of the year. I’m sure they’re going to be a little bit better in everything they do. So that’s our challenge. It’s more a focus on us again, get our game right and we feel if we do that we’ll compete with anyone.”
