Hull FC interim coach Simon Grix has provided an injury update for his side ahead of their clash with Castleford Tigers.
The Black and Whites currently sit seven points behind Craig Lingard’s side, with neither in contention for a play-off place.
Therefore, the objective for Hull FC now will be one of pride, fighting to stay off bottom spot. They’re level on points with bottom side London Broncos, only ahead of them on points difference following a 29-4 defeat to them at Magic Weekend.
Now, there are just four games of the regular season left, with Leeds Rhinos, Salford Red Devils and Catalans Dragons to follow the Tigers as FC’s opponents.
They could, in theory, have a huge impact in the race for the final play-off places.
Grix has been in charge since Tony Smith was sacked from his role as head coach in April, stepping up after being an assistant coach – a role he’s expected to return to once John Cartwright joins the club.
Hull FC injury latest as Simon Grix reveals exciting news
Castleford had their own veteran hooker back in a matchday squad last week, but now it could be Hull FC’s turn, with Danny Houghton potentially making a return.
Grix says he’s close to a return after over a month out with a calf injury, in which he’s had to wait for his 450th appearance for the club.
He said: “Danny is in the background plugging away.
“He’s got some boxes still to tick, and we’ll see how he goes at the end of the week. He’s certainly chomping at the bit.”
In addition, Jack Walker could return to the squad after the full-back suffered a bicep rupture in the Magic Weekend defeat.
There are also two others returning to the squad: Denive Balmforth and Ligi Sao, suspended for one game each, will be back.
