Hull FC second-rower Jed Cartwright will miss the remainder of the Super League season, it has been confirmed.
Cartwright picked up the injury on Friday night at St Helens, leaving the field within the first five minutes of the contest for treatment. That injury has now been confirmed to be a pectoral tendon tear and it brings his season to a premature end.
The Australian has missed much of this season already through injury and the Black and Whites will have to make do without him as they push to claim a spot in the Super League play-off places.
“He’s got a torn pectoral tendon,” his head coach and father John Cartwright said. “He’ll see a specialist and go from there.
“I’m fortunate to have been involved in the game a long time and so has Jed. He’s been through a lot of injuries.
“The hardest thing about injuries is thinking about the recovery, he’s got experience of that. I’m more disappointed for him in that he misses the run-in to the semi-finals, I thought he was finding some good form, fitness, and he helps the team when he’s out there.
“A double edged sword, disappointed as his dad but as far as the team is concerned, we’re going to miss him.”
Hull FC boss on Sam Eseh, Liam Watts and Liam Knight injuries
The Black and Whites will also be without Wigan Warriors loanee Sam Eseh this week, who has a hamstring issue and won’t be ready in time to take on Leeds Rhinos at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.
“He won’t play this week,” Cartwright said. “You just can’t tell with hamstrings. He’s going through the protocols and hopefully, we’ll have him for the Hull KR game. It’s in the shorter term and not the longer term but we’ll get him back at training next week and see how he is.”
Liam Watts will be able to play this week after missing last week through concussion, but Cartwright has confirmed that Liam Knight won’t play again this season after picking up a stress fracture in his ankle.
On Knight, he added: “He’s had surgery now. He’s out for the season but he’ll be alright to start pre-season.”
