Hull FC have hit a new season low as they lost 68-6 to Leeds Rhinos in a humiliating performance on the road at Headingley.
The Black and Whites went through a phase of conceding 50 or more points earlier in the season, doing so in three out of four games at one stage, however, they had grown more resilient in the second half of the season.
That has changed in recent weeks with Hull FC conceding 40 or more points in two of their last five games before today’s hammering as Leeds ran up the scoreboard to win 68-6.
It’s a result that keeps Leeds Rhinos’ play-off hopes alive and gives them a huge boost on the points difference tally as well, however, for Hull FC it’s just a new low in a season of lows.
They are now only just 43 points better off than London Broncos meaning that Hull FC could still feasibly pick up the wooden spoon this season.
Hull FC hammered by Leeds Rhinos
Leeds Rhinos started the game tentatively as they took the two points on offer following their golden point scare against London Broncos last week, however, they would quickly start racking up the tries.
Harry Newman, fresh off an England call-up, scored the opener after ten minutes before Cam Smith doubled up ten minutes later. Alfied Edgell would then score his first career try at Headingley to make it 20-0 on the half-hour mark.
A Hull FC sin bin made the task tougher for the visitors and they would ship two more tries before halftime with James Bentley scoring his first of the season before Brodie Croft broke through on the eve of the halftime hooter.
Just minutes into the second half, Edgell scored his second before Rhyse Martin started rubbing salt into the wounds by kicking a penalty to make it 40-0.
Edgell would then score his third and fourth, either side of Harvey Barron’s score, before Martin added another penalty to make it 54-6 after just an hour.
Brodie Croft would add his second of the game before yet another Rhyse Martin penalty, the Papua New Guinean scoring 26 points on the night. The game was finished off with a James Bentley try which James Donaldson converted in his final game at Headingley.
For Hull FC, it’s yet another dismal result and it gives serious cause for concern for the final two games of the season and for the size of the task that faces John Cartwright in 2025.
