Hull FC hit with four fresh injuries as Danny Houghton update given

It never rains but it pours at Hull FC at the minute with the Black and Whites picking up four fresh injury concerns on Saturday afternoon.

Simon Grix’s side were beaten 39-20 by Castleford Tigers in what was a low quality showing at the MKM Stadium with both sides having little to play for. However, the head coach was left to lament injuries once more after the contest with the club’s medical staff being kept extremely busy.

The first issue came just eight minutes into the game as Danny Houghton, who was making his return from a calf injury a day after announcing plans to retire at the end of the season, limped out with what appeared to be a reoccurrence of the same issue.

Ligi Sao, who scored Hull’s opening try, left the field for a HIA and failed to return, while Jack Ashworth and Jordan Lane also picked up problems.

“Danny has hurt something in his calf,” Hull FC interim boss Grix said after the game. “I’m not 100% sure on the severity or anything like that, but he felt like he couldn’t carry on. It’s disappointing, as he’s ticked all the boxes to get right. That’s just us at the moment.

“Not many people get to leave on their terms, and Danny might be one of the majority now, but again, I don’t know the details. We’ve got a few weeks left now, and if there’s any chance that he will make it, we’ll see.

“Ligi went off for a HIA. It was a head knock that coincided with a finger in the eye as well. He couldn’t see, and then he couldn’t return. We also lost Jack Ashworth with his back and then Laney with his calf. It’s been a costly day.”
