Hull FC went down 19-18 to Wakefield Trinity despite leading 18-6 with just under 12 minutes to go in the two sides’ Super League fixture this afternoon.
The Black and Whites seemingly rued the departure of maverick fullback Jake Connor after he limped off soon after the resumption with what looked like a serious knee injury.
But, for Hull boss Brett Hodgson, he believed there were a number of harsh calls against his side, though he was disappointed with the result.
“I thought we got penalised and six agains which put a hell of a lot pressure on us, a few of those were warranted and a few of those were very harsh, I thought. We couldn’t come off our line,” Hodgson said.
“I’m concerned about today’s result in a way we should have won the game from where we were at half-time.
“It’s more a disappointment than concern and we need to learn from this and make sure we don’t put ourselves in the same position.”
When the game went into golden point extra-time, halfback Luke Gale had two opportunities to drop a one-pointer and send Hull home with the win.
Gale was, however, wayward with both attempts and Hodgson called on his senior players to display better decision-making.
“We need our senior players to step up on those occasions, I think he went on tackle four on the first one and he could have got closer.”
