Hull FC hand long-term contract to influential forward

Hull FC have announced that back-rower Jordan Lane has signed a three-year contract extension with the Black & Whites, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2025 season.

The Black & Whites have tied down the ever-improving 24-year-old, who has proven himself to be one of the first names on the team sheet for the Airlie Birds in recent seasons.

Having earned a regular starting spot in Brett Hodgson’s pack, Lane’s impressive progress was rewarded with the prestigious number thirteen jersey this season.

A former Young Player of the Year for the club he has supported from his youth, the versatile forward has already notched up 78 career appearances since his club debut in 2018.

He was also on the verge of representative honours in the autumn having been in-line for a call-up to the England Knights squad, only to be ruled out through injury.

Speaking to hullfc.com, he said: “Tying down my long-term future with the club is something I’m really pleased to do – I feel like I’ll be coming into the prime of my career over the next few years and there’s no place I’d rather be playing than my boyhood club.

“I feel like I’ve come a long way since I signed my last contract in 2020 – being given the number thirteen jersey this season was a really proud moment for me and my family, and I want to continue to improve and develop throughout 2022 and beyond.

“My confidence has improved massively over the last couple of years, having been a regular name on the team sheet every week – Brett has shown a lot of faith in me to play my own game and that has really helped me continue to progress.”

Hull FC head coach, Brett Hodgson, said: “We’ve got big aspirations for Laney – he’s one of the first names on the team sheet every week and brings us some great utility value being able to jump in at back-row and loose-forward.

“He is a dominant figure in the way we play, runs some great lines for us, great with the ball in his hands, and is someone we want to build the team around going forward over the next few years.

“He has shown some big improvements over the last few years in terms of his confidence, and I think if he keeps up his current form, he has potential to feature on the international stage over the course of the next few years.

“It’s been a big week for him personally too with the birth of his little girl, so we’re all wishing him a big congratulations all round.”
