Hull FC halfback Cade Cust returned to the side with a player-of-the-match performance in their 28-16 victory over Warrington Wolves.
Cust had missed last week’s Cup defeat to Hull KR following HIA protocols but came back into the starting line-up in a changed spine.
He replaced Will Pryce at six, who moved to fullback, with Jordan Rapana moving into the centres.
Cust was awarded the player of the match by pundit Jon Wells live on the Sky Sports broadcast.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “It was a game of two halves, wasn’t it? We were all in control in that first forty minutes. I don’t want to go through that second half again but it’s going to be funny on Monday.”
The halfback credited his coach for bringing this group of players together and admitted that the squad are all on the same page.
He added: “I think it’s the belief that Carty instils in the boys, we worked hard in pre-season and I think our defence and our line, we just turn up for one another. It’s unreal to be a part of and I just love being out there with the boys, to be honest.
“I’ve worked under him before at Manly and he’s just old-school, you just want to go out there and do the best for him. I’ve found a home at Hull and I’m really happy at the moment.”
Cust has been in Super League since 2022 but despite spells at both Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils, it’s taken him some time to find his feet.
He said: “I’ve had some ups and downs since coming over here, I haven’t played the way I know I can play and the way I want to perform.
“I feel like there are a few doubters out there and I want to prove them wrong. I just love the game and I want to be out there every week.”
Looking ahead to the Good Friday Hull derby, the Hull FC half admitted he’s excited to play in front of a full home crowd but praised the fans’ efforts when on the road too.
He finished: “I’m looking forward to that one. Our fans are unreal, every away game, they’ve just been outstanding but I’m looking forward to being at home with hopefully 25,000 of them.”
