Hull FC hit a new season-low as they lost to London Broncos at Magic Weekend in what has been described as a ‘Championship-level’ performance by head coach Simon Grix.
London got on the scoresheet first through in-form full-back Josh Rouke and despite a quick response from the Black and Whites, they never again truly threatened despite numerous sets in London territory.
Hull FC would go on to lose 29-4 after trailing 12-4 at half time and already at that stage the writing was on the wall. Pundit Jon Wilkin spoke at the break arguing that FC would “get rolled here” and “finish bottom of the league” if they didn’t get their act together.
Unfortunately for the Black and Whites, they didn’t get their act together at all as the errors continued and they slipped to a second defeat of the season against the Broncos who drew level on points with FC after the win.
It means that only points difference separates Hull FC from finishing bottom of the league for the first time in 60 years, a sign of how poorly the season has gone for them and that’s evident among fan opinions as well.
“Just relegate us” – Hull FC fans fed up after London loss
Understandably, Hull FC fans were fuming at the performance but also what it sums up which is a terrible season and a club that has lacked a plan for the past few seasons in order to get into such a state.
One positive for the Black and Whites is that with their Grade A rating under IMG, they will be in Super League next season but several fans argued that they deserve relegation.
“Just relegate us. We deserve it”, one posted.
Another responded to the club’s full-time post on X saying: “Shame we can’t get relegated because we f***ing deserve to be. Horrible club.”

Another X user argued that is was “disgusting” that Hull FC are guaranteed a Super League spot as they asked: “Who would rather have this Hull team in Super League over London?”
Disgusting really that these lot are guranteed superleague next year, seriously who would rather have this hull team in superleague over London? I genuinely enjoyed watching London play today and think they offer a lot to the league. https://t.co/3pVV59OMKb

Failure to put in a good show for the fans at an event such as Magic Weekend was also noted by others, as was the fact that the club will find it very difficult in 2205 to convince fans to part with their hard-earned cash.
One said: “It is a shame they cannot even do it for the fans, this was our best chance. Fair play to London, got a great team ethic. If we finish bottom we should be relegated. It’s going to be a hard sell next season as the damage may already be done.”
Another said: “I’m done. I won’t be attending any more matches this season and won’t be renewing my membership next season.”

With just five games of the season to go, it remains to be seen where Hull FC will finish but it’s clear that John Cartwright will have a huge task next season.

I understand the idea behind the IMG ideas, but if Hull FC finish bottom they should go down! A grading didn’t save Rovers when they got relegated a few years ago! Clubs like Bradford, Widnes, Oldham, Featherstone, Halifax, all with rich history deserve their chance for glory again, new clubs Sheffield, Toulouse, and any other club that finds backing should be able to make the step up, on merit. A rigged league is no league at all. Why should clubs with no chance of making the playoffs bother playing? They might as well suggest fans bring their boots and they’ll run trials, or put out an under-9s side against Wigan or Hull Kingston Rovers. I won’t suggest St Helen’s they might win that at the moment. Removing relegation does nothing to expand Rugby League. It will shrink it significantly this year!
