Hull FC duo Luke Gale and Jake Connor give honest verdicts on each other

Luke Gale returned to the Hull FC line-up yesterday against Wigan Warriors after a five-match ban.

When the former Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers number 7 moved to the MKM Stadium ahead of the 2022 Super League season, he probably didn’t think he would become good friends with Jake Connor – a man who he had numerous verbal tussles with whilst at other clubs.

However, the duo joked and spoke highly of each other in yesterday’s preview on Sky Sports.

“I’m coming into a good team that is playing well and I just need to guide the boys around the pitch,” Gale said.

“We’ve only lost one of those games I was out, so I just wanted to add to it.

“He’s (Connor) a good footy player, my job is easy and hopefully he makes me look good.”

Jake Connor was also glad to see his skipper back.

“It’s been a long time coming, we know what he brings to the team and we’re glad he was back,” Connor said.

“I give him a mouthful if he doesn’t do his job well enough!”

The two were certainly firing on all cylinders last night as Hull just narrowly lost to the Warriors with a last-minute drop-goal from Harry Smith.
