Hull FC dealt injury blow as back set for surgery on the eve of pre-season

Hull FC man Davy Litten will go under the knife next week after struggling to shake off a knee injury.

The Black and Whites are due to start pre-season training under John Cartwright on November 4th as they bid to draw a line under what can only be described as a disastrous 2024 Super League campaign. However, Litten looks set to miss a significant chunk of training as he recovers from surgery.

Litten first suffered the knee injury in July while in action against Wigan Warriors at the MKM Stadium. He missed much of the final few months of the campaign as a result, with a return to action in time to play in the penultimate weekend of the season in September.

However, it seems he has been unable to shake off the discomfort and he’s scheduled in for surgery once more next Friday, with Hull Live reporting he could be looking at a lay-off of up to six months.

It comes as a huge blow for the 21-year-old, who had no doubt earmarked pre-season as the chance to kick on and make a real impression on incoming head coach Cartwright. The versatile back made just six appearances for Hull last season, but after taking on a centre role, he is expected to compete with the likes of Zak Hardaker and Ed Chamberlain for a spot next season.

Litten still has another two years left to run on his deal with the Black and Whites and it’s fair to say people within the club are excited about the potential he possesses.

Speaking in his final press conference as Hull FC player, Carlos Tuimavave described Litten as someone who has the talent required to represent his country down the line.

“In terms of passing the torch on, you look at kids like Davy Litten, I see him as an England international in the years to come,” Tuimavave said.

“If he’s the starting centre next year, oh my God, the club should be excited about that. He’s got a bright future. Hopefully, I can pass the torch on to him, and everything that I’ve shared with Davy in the last couple of years can take him to the next level as well.”
