Hull FC have confirmed that Herman Ese’ese could be set to spend the next eight months on the sidelines due to injury.
Ese’ese has enjoyed another exceptional season for the Black and Whites this year, with the powerhouse prop spearheading the club’s push for a top six spot. That fact is hammered home by the New Zealander’s stats for the season having touched down for 10 tries in 26 outings for the club.
That includes eight in Super League, with Ese’ese being second in the Man of Steel race when the leaderboard went dark after round 15.
Unfortunately for Hull, though, he won’t feature in the final three rounds of the campaign after rupturing his Achilles in the loss to Leeds Rhinos. The forward went down midway through the first half before having to helped from the field and scans have revealed the injury.
It means Ese’ese is expected to miss between six and eight months, and that rules him out of pre-season the start of the 2026 Super League season, too.

A statement released by the club read: “After seeing a specialist on Tuesday, the club can confirm that Ese’ese has unfortunately suffered a ruptured Achilles.
“The prop is expected to be sidelined for approximately six to eight months.
“Ese’ese will undergo surgery later this week and begin his rehabilitation. Everyone at the club sends Herman their best wishes and we look forward to seeing him back on the field in 2026.”
Ese’ese joins an injury list that already includes Will Pryce, John Asiata, Liam Knight and Jed Cartwright, while updates are yet to be given on the Ed Chamberlain, Cade Cust and Liam Watts following the injuries they picked up against Leeds. However, head coach John Cartwright is due to speak to the press this afternoon and he’s expected to give a full injury rundown.
