Hull FC confirm ‘significant’ injury blow to key man ahead of Wigan and 5 other updates

Hull FC Simon Grix

Hull FC interim coach Simon Grix has provided an injury update on his side, including a significant blow for the Black and Whites.

Hull FC have lost their last three games, and suffered a 14-point defeat to city rivals Hull KR at the weekend, but performances have seemed to improve of late.

Therefore, they will be looking to build on this during tricky upcoming games against Wigan Warriors, Catalans Dragons and St Helens.

They have three boosts for those games, with Simon Grix saying: “Carlos [Tuimavave] is looking good. He’s trained today absolutely fine.

“That decision will come down to performance as opposed to injury. Ligi [Sao] and Jack [Charles] are alright. It was a physical game, but they’re alright. Jack got a bit of traffic, but they’ve all tipped up alright, to be fair.”

Tuimavave is therefore set to return from having a tight hamstring, and could play this week. Grix also said on Jed Cartwright, who has a long-term foot injury:

Grix has also confirmed that Jed Cartwright’s rehab is ongoing from a foot injury, saying: “He’s two weeks in. I said at the time it would be a minimum of four. He’s getting on with his rehab.”

Danny Houghton, who is expected to be playing his final season for Hull FC this year, is set to be out for a long time: “We need more information, but Danny has got a pretty significant tear in his calf.

“I don’t think there’s much calf left to tear. It’s all scar tissue from all the past ones, but the rehab doesn’t change. It’s on the larger scale. We need to do some more investigation, but I’d say it’s a minimum of six weeks.”

FC will, therefore, be hoping he hasn’t made his final appearance in black and white, and that he will be available for the back end of the campaign.

Joe Cator has also had surgery due to the back issue that has already kept him out of action for two months.

Meanwhile, Grix also confirmed for this weekend: “Tiaki won’t be with us. There’s a place there for us, and one of our younger blokes will get an opportunity.”
