Hull FC have confirmed the details for their Round Three Challenge Cup clash against community club York Acorn.
Acorn are one of three community clubs to progress to Round Three that have drawn Super League opposition with Wests Warriors and West Hull being the other two.
The new Challenge Cup format has seen Super League clubs enter the competition earlier with the intention of having these David versus Goliath-style match-ups.
Super League sides entered in Round Three and joined the 20 Round Two winners with every Super League team drawn away from home to “guarantee” that they played at the smaller community grounds, as per the RFL’s statement.
However, in each instance of a community club drawing a Super League side, the fixture has been moved to a different and larger venue which has rendered the change somewhat pointless.
Leeds Rhinos confirmed that they will host Wests Warriors whilst Craven Park will be the venue for West Hull versus St Helens.
Hull FC have now provided an update on the venue for their clash against York Acorn.
Hull FC confirm new venue for Round Three Challenge Cup clash
Hull FC have taken to social media to confirm that they will face Acorn at Featherstone Rovers’ Millennium Stadium, a neutral venue.
The Northern Conference League Premier division side will leave North Yorkshire and travel to West Yorkshire for the game with Hull also having to travel for the match.
A statement from Hull FC explained: “Hull FC will face NCL Premier Division side York Acorn at the Millennium Stadium, Featherstone in our Betfred Challenge Cup Third Round tie next weekend.
“The match will take place on Saturday 8th February, kicking off at 2.00pm, in what will be the Black & Whites first competitive fixture against a community club since 1998.
“Tickets are priced at £15.00 for adults, and £10.00 for concessions, while junior tickets are free of charge.”
Director of Rugby Richie Myler had discussed potential venues for the game with Doncaster’s stadium also considered, however, the two teams have landed on the Millennium Stadium as the venue.
Last year, Acorn made it to the Round of 32 after defeating League One Cornwall on the road but lost to Halifax Panthers. They’ll now take on Super League opposition with the hope of making it to the last 16.
