Hull FC have confirmed that centre Arthur Romano will leave the club with immediate effect after being granted a release on compassionate grounds with the Frenchman now confirmed to have signed for a new club.
The news does not come as a surprise and follows on from Serious About Rugby League reports from early August that he had not settled well, as well as reports last week from French publication L’Independant that Romano would depart the MKM Stadium.
Those reports from L’Independant suggested that the centre would re-sign with Catalans Dragons and whilst Hull FC have not confirmed that, they have announced that he will return home to France for an opportunity with another Super League club.
Catalans Dragons have since confirmed that they have signed Romano on a two-year deal, meaning he is one of two Hull FC players to make the switch there as hooker Amir Bourouh has previously signed for Les Dracs.
Both Romano and Bourouh, who qualifies through his heritage, have been named to Franc’s extended 40-man training squad for the World Cup.

Hull FC confirm Arthur Romano exit
A statement from the Black and Whites announced the news, reading: “Hull FC can confirm that Arthur Romano has departed the club with immediate effect.
“Romano has been released from the remainder of his contract on compassionate grounds, allowing him to return to France to be closer to home and to his young family.
“He will take up an opportunity with another Super League club in 2027, with the Black & Whites receiving compensation from Romano’s new club.
“The centre has made 15 appearances for the Black & Whites in 2026 after joining the club from Catalans Dragons.
“The club thanks Arthur for his efforts in Black & White, and wishes him the best of luck for the future.”
It’s expected he will return to Catalans, for whom he played 95 games since debuting in 2017. He’s also been capped seven times at the international stage and is expected to feature in the centres at this year’s World Cup.
Former Hull FC and current Catalans coach, John Cartwright, said: “Arthur is returning home after a year at Hull FC. I ad the pleasure of working with him there and have the greatest respect for his leadership and never say die attitude. He has a genuine passion for the club.”
This article has been amended to confirm that Arthur Romano has signed for Catalans Dragons.
