Hull FC confirm backroom reshuffle as club legend among seven staff departures

Hull FC have confirmed a major turnover within their performance and backroom staff, with iconic back-to-back Challenge Cup-winning captain Gareth Ellis among seven off-field departures ahead of the final game of the season.

The Black and Whites announced the sweeping changes across their rugby and medical departments as part of an off-season restructuring, with several key figures set to take up new opportunities elsewhere in the game.

Headlining the list of off-field exits is Director of Rugby & Wellbeing Gareth Ellis, who will leave the MKM Stadium following his second non-playing spell with the Airlie Birds.

The club legend has held a variety of off-field positions since retiring from playing, but will now depart to take up a new opportunity elsewhere in rugby league.

Assistant coach Simon Grix is also moving on, having accepted a role at another Super League club for 2027, with Castleford Tigers having already announced his appointment for 2027.

Grix originally arrived ahead of the 2024 campaign and stepped in as interim head coach later that year before returning to his assistant coaching duties.

Hull FC performance and medical staff overhauled

In addition to the coaching and rugby leadership exits, Hull FC have confirmed a widespread shake-up across their medical and strength and conditioning setups.

Head Physiotherapist Andy Shea, Sports Scientist Will Witter, and Strength & Conditioning Coach Jon Humby are all stepping down from their respective roles at the conclusion of the campaign.

They follow physiotherapist Sami Ghanem, who parted ways with the club earlier in the summer.

Paying tribute to the outgoing backroom team in an official statement, Hull FC said: “The club pays its thanks to each and every departing member of the performance department for their efforts during their respective spells with the club, and we wish them all the very best of luck for their futures.”

The backroom changes follow the previously announced player departures, with Hull FC set to wrap up their 2026 Super League regular season away at Leeds Rhinos on Friday night.

If he’s a Hull legend he’s a Lord at Rhinos Two Super Leagues & Two World Club Challenges better than a couple of Micky Mouse Cups imo ha ha ha!
