Hull FC head coach Simon Grix has given his verdict on the news that Lachlan Lam has reportedly committed to Leigh Leopards for 2025.
Lam had been one of the major targets for Hull FC who have already poached four Leigh players for 2025 including captain John Asiata and centre Ed Chamberlain, who has already made the switch.
Lachlan Lam was the biggest piece of the puzzle though with the half-back being such a pivotal position and despite reports earlier in the year from Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks that FC had ‘got their man’, it appears that’s not the case.
That belief comes following head coach Adrian Lam’s revelation after Leigh’s win over Hull FC that Lachlan would be “here next year”.
It leaves Hull FC scrambling to find a half for the 2025 season amidst reports that Jake Trueman will leave for Wakefield Trinity and Simon Grix has now been asked about the Black and Whites’ failed pursuit of Lam.
Hull FC coach admits defeat in Lam pursuit
Speaking ahead of Hull FC’s Magic Weekend clash with London Broncos, which could have major repercussions, Grix told the club’s YouTube channel about how he viewed the Lam situation.
“I’m not aware of the full situation of (Lachlan) Lam and where he’s at,” Grix revealed.
“I’ve read, I presume, the same stuff you have that he’s staying at Leigh. That’s the way of it. Good players have more than one suitor always. There’s always going to be a few people in for him.
“That position is an important one whether it’s in the NRL or the UK, there’s not a great amount of depth for it so they are going to have plenty of suitors and it’s a position we do need to sort out and fill.
“Thankfully I’m not the one who has to be on the phone chasing them, that’s up to Richie to sort out.”
The pool of players for Richie Myler to sign from is getting smaller by the day with Hull FC potentially in a sticky situation next season if they can’t land a premier half-back.
They may well find it harder to recruit should they lose to London Broncos this weekend and potentially end up as Super League’s ‘Wooden Spoon’ winners.
