Hull FC boss John Cartwright has given updates on the injuries Aidan Sezer and Yusuf Aydin picked up in training last week.
Sezer and Aydin were left out of the Black and Whites’ 21-man squad to face Leeds Rhinos through injury last weekend, with Sezer picking up a pectoral issue, while Aydin has an ankle problem.
The Black and Whites are still awaiting clarity on the severity of Sezer’s injury but the head coach is optimistic that his skipper will only miss up to six weeks of action. That means the half-back will more than likely miss clashes against Catalans Dragons and the Good Friday derby with Hull KR over the next fortnight and perhaps one or two games beyond that.
He wasn’t quite as clear with Aydin’s ankle issue, though, with Cartwright unable to provide a timeframe for the prop’s return to action.
“It’s too early to say,” Cartwright said on Sezer. “He doesn’t need an operation and they’re saying anywhere up to six weeks. We’ll just go week by week with him.
“[Aydin] just rolled his ankle. An innocuous sort of thing, it happened at training. He rolled it pretty bad. Once they’re symptom free, we’ll get them back on the paddock.”
The head coach will have been relieved to see Lewis Martin pass a head injury assessment on Sunday afternoon in the second half of FC’s win 24-16 win over Leeds Rhinos at the MKM Stadium. That ensures the winger will be eligible to feature next week against Catalans.
And, although Brad Fash suffered a nasty-looking gash to the head, it seemed as though the Black and Whites came though the clash with Leeds relatively unscathed.
