John Cartwright has given an update on the injuries Hull FC picked up in their loss to York Knights on Friday night.
The Black and Whites were hugely disappointing at the MKM Stadium as they lost 17-16 against the newly promoted outfit, with Mark Applegarth’s side being worthy winners. However, it was a costly night for Hull in more ways than one with four players appearing to pick up issues.
Aidan Sezer was the first player withdrawn, before Harvey Barron and Jed Cartwright joined him in the treatment room after picking up issues in the second half of the contest. Cade Cust was visibly struggling too in the final moments of the contest and had to receieve treatment on the field before making it to the final hooter.
The head coach was unable to give an update on Cust, but he did speak about Sezer, Barron and Cartwright.
“He got a poke in the eye and he had blurred vision,” Cartwright said. “He got to the point where he was comfortable going back on and then at half-time it was going a bit backwards so it was for his own health that we brought him off.
“I’m not right across the injuries at the moment, I haven’t spoken to the medical staff, but Harvey was an ankle I believe, he was hobbling pretty bad.
“[Jed] felt a hammy tweak. I haven’t got to the bottom of the injuries yet, I’ll go see the medical staff when we finish.
Asked whether they would be doubts for Thursday’s clash at Wakefield Trinity, he added: “Very much so, it’s a six-day turnaround so yeah.”
On the game itself, the Hull FC boss said: “Disappointing result, it was a game we were confident of winning but I thought at stages of the first half, they scored a try and camped down in our area for a long time.
“I thought we answered that pretty well and controlled the first half but we just couldn’t score more points in the first half, especially in the last five minutes, we had a couple of ordinary sets. We didn’t take our chances there. Second half, just too many errors. First tackle, errors inside your 10, really really tough to defend when you’re doing that, especially with 12 men.
“Losing our half-back wasn’t ideal but no excuse, they just played more consistent footy. We handled a lot of the stuff and I thought defensively we were pretty good, keeping them in their own end which gave us opportunities with the ball, we just lacked polish and in the second half, just too many errors.”
