John Cartwright expects to be able to welcome Jake Arthur to Hull FC over the off-season after confirming a deal is on the verge of being done.
The Black and Whites have been looking for a half-back to spearhead their attack for next season and have been linked to a number of options down under. However, it seems the club have their man with Cartwright admitting that FC are close to being able to announce the signing for next year.
Arthur, son of Leeds Rhinos boss Brad, is currently at Newcastle Knights, having made the move across New South Wales earlier this year from Manly Sea Eagles. However, his contract only runs until the end of the NRL season with the Knights, where he has made three appearances at the time of writing.
He has been named in the Knights’ side for this weekend’s game against Cronulla Sharks, too. But he’ll be heading to Super League next season with Hull almost ready to announce their star recruit for 2026.
Of course, Arthur will be expected to slot into the side at stand-off alongside Aidan Sezer with Cade Cust, who has been rewarded for his performances with a new deal in recent weeks, due to play more of a utility role moving forward off the bench.
John Cartwright gives update on Hull FC recruitment
Asked about Arthur in his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with Leeds Rhinos, Cartwright added: “We’re close to getting it done. I’d say it’s something the club will be able to announce but not quite at the moment.
“He’s a steady head, a good kicking game and a strong defender. He’s performed at a really high New South Wales Cup level at home and he’s earned his right to play a fair bit of first grade over there but he’s only 22 years of age and he’s got a lot of things in his way.
“He’s very skilful but that’s next year. We’ll be able to announce something soon regarding Jake.”
