Hull FC boss Brett Hodgson reveals when new signing will be announced

Hull FC have had a turbulent time in the halfbacks in 2022.

Having signed Luke Gale ahead of the season to partner Australian recruit Josh Reynolds, Brett Hodgson’s men looked good to go for a tilt at silverware in 2022.

Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out that way for the Black and Whites and Reynolds was granted an immediate exit earlier this week with Hodgson looking for a replacement as quickly as possible.

And, live on Sky Sports on Friday night, Hodgson revealed to pundit Jenna Brooks that there will be news soon, saying: “We’ve got some ongoing conversations but we’re hopeful in the next 48-72 hours we might have some news.”

Reynolds’ departure has left Hull looking abroad for potentially fresh meat with South Sydney Rabbitohs halfback Dean Hawkins previously linked with a move to the MKM Stadium.

That, however, has had cold water poured over it as has the link of Bevan French from Wigan Warriors.

One name that looks likely to make the move halfway across the world is a Newcastle Knights halfback that goes by the name of Tex Hoy.

Son of a surfing legend, Matt, Tex Hoy is a close family friend of the Johns brothers, with the rangy playmaker set to sign for Hull from 2023 onwards, according to the Daily Telegraph.

There will, however, be a clause included in his contract, according to the publication, that will allow him to stay in the NRL if another club comes in with a suitable offer.

Hoy has played just four games for the Knights in 2022 and has registered 21 games for Newcastle overall since debuting in 2020.

Still only 22 years of age, it would certainly be an indicator of Hull’s new policy of bringing through young players in a bid to freshen up Hodgson’s squad.

The move is set to be given the go ahead by the Knights’ hierarchy given the fact that the club want Anthony Milford to stay beyond his current short-term deal which expires at the end of the season.

Milford had given a ‘handshake deal’ to Wayne Bennett at the Dolphins, but Hoy’s departure could allow the halfback to stay with Adam O’Brien’s side for longer.
