Hull FC boss addresses decision to part ways with Jake Trueman

Hull FC interim boss Simon Grix has had his say on the club’s decision to part ways with Jake Trueman. The Black and Whites announced Trueman’s departure earlier this week with the player set to leave the MKM Stadium at the end of the Super League season.

The half-back has penned terms with Wakefield Trinity and he is expected to represent the Championship club later this season in the play-offs, once his duties with Hull are complete. It’s a move that sees Hull cut Trueman’s contract with the club short, with the former Castleford Tigers man having a year left to run on his deal before the decision was made.

FC are yet to announce a replacement for Trueman, who joined the club ahead of the 2023 campaign, but they have been strongly linked with a move for Wests Tigers Aidan Sezer, who is no stranger to Super League, of course. The club are also understood to have signed Cade Cust from Salford Red Devils, while outside back Jordan Rapana is said to have penned a two-year deal with the club.

It’s been a busy few days in East Yorkshire, then, and Grix, who will hand the head coach reins over to John Cartwright in the off-season, backs the decision making of Hull FC director of rugby Richie Myler.

“It’s one of them,” Grix said, per Serious About Rugby League’s sister organisation the Yorkshire Post. “Maybe the club is ready for a change and maybe Truey is ready for a change.

“The conversation has been had between Rich and Truey, Truey has had an opportunity to sign a longer contract elsewhere and we move on.

“We’ve been getting used to change, haven’t we, and we’ll just carry on with the day to day and leave the responsibility with Richie around replacing him.

“That’s his job. We’ll get on with our end and that’s trying to get the best performance we can.”

He added: “Richie has made the decision that he feels is best for the club and Truey what he feels is best for him. We move on now. It’s business as usual.”
