Hull FC announce incredible engagement with children’s summer camps as numbers hit 500

The Hull FC Community Foundation has already engaged with over 500 local children after its first week of summer camps, with the 2022 timetable set to become the club’s most well-attended summer camps ever.

Across the entire 2021 school summer holidays, the Community Foundation engaged with over 1,500 children, so a third of that target has already been reached within the first week of this year’s camps.

Following last year’s success, the Community Foundation once again received funding from both the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Hull City Council through the Holiday Activities & Food (HAF) programme a scheme funded by the Government and delivered by local councils across the summer, providing healthy food and fun activities to children and young people, with free meals available for those on free school meals.

To keep children engaged through the six-week summer holidays, the Community Foundation is delivering a wide range of camps across the local region, including rugby activities, multi-sports and dance.

From Holderness Vikings to West Hull and from Cottingham Tigers to Myton Warriors, the Hull FC Community Foundation’s coaches have been busy at the local amateur clubs this week, delivering rugby-based activities during the first week of the summer camps. These will continue throughout the entirety of the school summer holidays.

One of the participants at the rugby camps said: “We had a great time on the camp because we got to play lots of fun games with our mates.

“It was different to some of the training we do with our own coaches. I liked that one of Hull FC’s coaches came in and taught us some new games that were really fun to play.”

To further enhance Hull FC’s blooming Girls Rugby League development programme following the Under 14s and Under 16s league title wins in 2022, the Community Foundation has provided camps for local girls from Under 12s to Under 16s at the University of Hull and the Bonus Youth Performance Centre this summer.

Meanwhile, the Community Foundation’s ‘Energise Club’ has undergone a summer makeover for the holidays. The after-school club, which was designed to improve the health and wellbeing of local schoolchildren, will continue to engage with its participants during the six-week break.

Head of the Hull FC Community Foundation James Price said: “We executed our summer camps really well last year, so I was thrilled that we managed to secure the Holiday Activities & Food funding once again for 2022.

“It’s a nice added touch that we can offer our participants free meals at the camps they attend. It makes them feel more welcome, and it gives them an incentive to come back and take part in another camp in the future.

“Ultimately, I think that is why we have experienced such a high volume of participants in the opening week of our summer camps this year. Last year’s camps were evidently well-received, and looking at the data, we can see that the majority of last year’s participants have returned, whilst it appears many have told their friends to come along and enjoy themselves, too.”

In total, the Community Foundation will deliver over 850 hours of camps this summer, with continued coverage across social media channels.
