Hull FC and Wigan Warriors men among those sweating Super League disciplinary

A number of Super League players were sent to the sin bin in Round Six and they could be sweating today’s disciplinary action.

Under the new disciplinary system in 2025, charges don’t always translate to bans but players will be particularly anxious ahead of today’s Match Review Panel given that the Challenge Cup quarter-finals are on the horizon.

Despite a number of charges last week, just Huddersfield’s Oliver Wilson was banned with the forward being hit with 15 penalty points and a two-match ban for a charge of ‘Head Contact’ in the Giants’ loss to Salford Red Devils.

Looking back across Round Six of Super League and a total of four players were sent to the sin bin meaning they will be among those fearing today’s action, although cards don’t always translate to charges as we’ve seen with a number of incidents that went unpunished on the field later seeing disciplinary action.

Thursday night’s game between Castleford Tigers and Hull FC saw two of the four sin bins whilst another incident in the game could catch the eyes of the Match Review Panel.

Innes Senior was the first man to see yellow with the winger making head contact for his hit on Cade Cust, which would result in the Australian failing a HIA. If a charge is brought then Senior would automatically have three penalty points added on due to the injury he caused Cust.

Amir Bourouh was the next to be sin binned with a dangerous tackle that saw the ball carrier’s legs go beyond the horizontal being punished by referee Liam Moore.

Liam Knight was then perhaps lucky to stay on the field as his high and late shot went without sin bin despite being looked at, but whether the Match Review Panel will be so lenient is another matter.

Onto one of the most controversial sin bins of the week and that was Keenan Palasia with the Leeds Rhinos man sent for ten late in the game, meaning the Rhinos finished with 12 on the field. He was adjudged to have made head contact when tackling Lachlan Fitzbibbon in a decision that Brad Arthur, and many others, queried.

Tyler Dupree was the fourth man to be shown yellow with the Wigan Warriors forward going high on Salford youngster Nathan Connell in a tackle that the Match Review Panel will be sure to take a second look at.
