A number of Super League players were sent to the sin bin in Round Three and they could be sweating today’s disciplinary action.
As we’ve already seen this season, disciplinary charges don’t necessarily translate to bans with just one Super League player banned so far this season.
That man was Joe Shorrocks with the Salford Red Devils man handed a Grade D charge which the club then challenged, failing and earning him a third match on the ban as a result.
The new Super League disciplinary system means players pick up penalty points with those points translating to bans when they reach certain amounts so as we go through the season, more players could get banned.
Those bans could start to come this week if players with points on their record are handed more meaning players and club’s will be anxiously awaiting this afternoon’s Match Review Panel.
Salford Red Devils will be hoping they don’t see their problems worsen but they were the only team to receive two yellow cards. Jayden Nikorima’s early shot on Niall Evalds saw him sent for ten whilst Chris Hill was pinged as a result of incessant infringements and delays from the Red Devils.
Friday night then saw two yellows with Jordan Dezaria’s sin bin for similar actions as Hill’s with the Frenchman delaying a quick 20 metre restart against Leigh Leopards. Elsewhere John Asiata was pinged for a high tackle on Aidan McGowan.
The weekend’s games went without a sin bin but they weren’t without incident with Lachlan Fitzgibbon the victim of a crusher tackle by Liam Byrne which went unpunished, whilst Joe Westerman and Tom Holroyd got into it at Headingley after the Rhinos man put George Hill in “an attempted armbar” per Sky Sports’ Jon Wells.
