Hull FC add to staff ahead of 2025 with new arrival

Hull FC Director of Rugby Richie Myler.

Hull FC have confirmed the appointment of a new senior member of staff for 2025.

The club have made many changes both on and off the field this year, with people such as head coach Tony Smith and quota players Tex Hoy, Nu Brown, Franklin Pele being sent out the exit door.

Meanwhile, stars such as John Asiata, Jordan Abdull and Zak Hardaker are among a huge number of signings for the 2025 season that will be joining the side led by new coach John Cartwright, as they look to improve on what has been a very poor campaign.

They’re faced with the very real possibility of finishing bottom of the pile this season – while their city-rivals look in a good spot to potentially clinch the League Leaders’ Shield.

Thanks to IMG reforms, there’s no chance of relegation however – and therefore, focus seems to be on 2025, rather than putting all the effort into salvaging the current campaign.

The club have signed Andy Shea as the club’s new Head Physio – and he’ll join following the end of the 2024 Super League season. He’s the first new addition to the backroom staff since appointing John Cartwight. He has spent time with football teams Cardiff City and Manchester United, as well as rugby inion teams Cardiff Rugby and Newcastle Falcons.

On his appointment, Shea said, via a club statement: “I’m delighted to be joining a club with such a great history; I’m aware that this season has been troublesome on the injury front and so my main focus will be helping injured players recover, and then develop the squad robustness through the preseason ready for next season.

“Having spoken to Richie Myler and Jason Davidson at length, I’m excited about the potential to develop the medical department in the short and long term.

“Along with the current medical staff at the club, I’ll aim to get our best players on the field as much as possible to help the club achieve the success it deserves.

“I’ve gained a huge amount of experience working in elite environments and I’m confident that I can call upon much of what I’ve learned to create a high standard of care and injury management culture at Hull FC.”
