“Bizarre” – Hull FC interim coach labels one key problem with the club

Hull FC

Hull FC slipped to another defeat this weekend, this time to Wigan Warriors, who they shocked earlier in the season.

After a terrible start to the campaign, there had seemed, briefly, to be some real signs of improvement, running sides such as Warrington Wolves and Salford Red Devils close before defeating Wigan Warriors.

How, however, within the last month, they’ve slipped to heavy defeats at the hands of St Helens and Leigh Leopards, and suffered perhaps their worst moment at Magic Weekend as they were defeated 29-4 by bottom side London Broncos.

This weekend, they lost again – despite a slightly improved performance – as they lost 22-4 to Wigan Warriors at the Brick Community Stadium.

After the loss to Wigan, interim coach Simon Grix noted one key thing that he wasn’t a huge fan of at the club.

He said in the post-match press conference – via Hull Daily Mail: “We haven’t been doing much different all year, but we’ve been trying to drive that ownership and that accountability.

“We need to make sure we’re pushing them a little bit to make sure they’re still pushing it. That’s the big change within a week—that they’ve gotten hold of it.

“I’ve found it bizarre since coming to Hull—the lack of accountability. It’s not even digging each other, but when you’re going that way and someone isn’t doing it, you pull them and you take it well, as everyone is trying to go upwards and in the right direction.

“It’s been something that has been really lacking in the playing group—that honest and moral courage to tell one of your mates a bit of professional criticism in an effort to get better. It’s been missing, but we got a bit of it this week, and we’ll look at a bit of footage now and give them an opportunity to correct more stuff themselves.”

I for one think the coaching staff are doing a brilliant job at Hull FC, the players too are proving exceptional on the pitch. But, I would say that, I’m a Rovers fan! Ha ha ha! More seriously the players have no fear, they’re not getting relegated, they have nice contracts, if anyone runs theirs down they’ll get picked up, blaming poor coaching and a bad atmosphere at FC. It’s not good enough, the fans deserve better than this, they pay good money to watch this, it’s simply not good enough. You don’t mond losing if your team is trying, giving their all, but what FC are serving up, they should refund the supporters!
