Hull FC 22-10 Huddersfield: Player ratings and three major talking points

Two teams highly fancied going into this season met today. Despite a valiant effort from the Giants, Hull comfortably secured their first win of the season on the back of fantastic performances from their spine. But who were the stand out players and what were the major talking points?

Major Talking Points

1. Sneyd and Reynolds a winning combination

Hull made just one off-season signing but it was arguably one of the biggest in Super League as they poached former Wests Tigers halfback Josh Reynolds. On debut today he and Marc Sneyd looked like a stellar combination. The pair dovetailed perfectly leading their team around the field masterfully and the pair seemed sharp in attack creating some superb chances for those around them. Jake Connor was also outstanding at fullback. Hull look like they have a very exciting spine this year.

2. No need to panic for Huddersfield

Playing against the wind in the first half, Huddersfield could’ve fallen much further behind than they did. However, the Giants defended well and made decent metres up the middle. It was in the attacking zones that the Giants struggled which is to be expected when both Jake Wardle and Aidan Sezer missing. They showed great guts even defending resolutely when a man down. There’s certainly no need to panic for Huddersfield.

3. Hull having fun

Before the game new Hull FC coach Brett Hodgson said he wanted his players to have fun and enjoy themselves and it showed. Under Lee Radford Hull were always a physical and pragmatic side. However, under Hodgson they promise to be a much more attacking side and very nearly scored one of the best tries you’ll ever see on the halftime hooter and they attacked wonderfully from minute 1.
