In the first Challenge Cup Final since 1986 without Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and St Helens, Leigh Leopards won a first Challenge Cup since 1971 against Hull KR.
They are hoping to finish the season strong and prepare for the play offs after up and down form since their Wembley win.
However, as they prepare to take on Wakefield Trinity this week they have lost Zak Hardaker as he was forced to have an X-Ray this week.
Lam previewed the game on YouTube saying: “Yeah, everyone should be good to go this week. It was just more precautionary for both players (John Asiata and Josh Charnley). We’ve got through that now and we’ll get to the end of the week but I think they both should be okay.
“I just feel that we need to give our best performances each week. I think that’s important that you build momentum, I think confidence and momentum is a key leading into the semi-finals.
“We’re locked in now with that six, which is an incredible honour this year and we’re happy to be able to qualify so early on, and just proud of how hard everyone’s worked to make that happen for us.
“The season’s not finished yet, we’ve already got that Challenge Cup trophy, which has been an amazing achievement as well, but I think the players are looking for more, especially after last weekend; and knowing that it was very physical, they bashed us and we bashed them, and there was a bit of a rugby being played there.
“They’ll be a desperate team, look to respond at the last guard crack at staying up in Super League. When you look at their squad, they’ve still got some really good players there that can lift them out of nowhere.
“We understand the situation and desperation that they’re in; but our want to remain in fourth spot is surely more than their want to stay up in the Super League. We’ve got a home game here, we haven’t been here for a long time, so we get our last two games at home, and that’s really important for our fans and for us it gives us a chance to bounce back from last week’s performance.
“We were really good, but we weren’t clinical with our attack at times, so that’s the fix for us, and making sure that we just focus on ourselves and not put too much concern on how important they are going to be playing in the thoughts of the match for them and the emotion that will be around a Wakefield performance as well. I’ve talked about all that and we will rush through that hopefully and see a performance that matches that performance.”
However, they have some injury concerns such as to Zak Hardaker who is set for an X-Ray:
“I think there’ll be a fitness test for them on Captain’s Run, but obviously bringing back Asiata and Charnley, more than likely both of those players will play as well so we’ll be close to full strength. There is a small issue with Hardaker as well with a hand that we’ve just got to check out to make sure he’s okay.
“We’re getting x-rays on that, there may be some more damage to that, but we’ll see how that unfolds.”
