Huge Wigan-Hull KR Super League Grand Final attendance expected

Fans packed into Old Trafford to watch the Super League Grand Final

The Super League Grand Final between Wigan Warriors and Hull KR this weekend is set to have the highest attendance for seven years, with sales expected to soar beyond 65,000.

This would be for the first time since the 2017 final between Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos, where the attendance hit 72,827.

Therefore, the attendance will be close to the 69,000-capped attendance capacity due to ‘reconfiguration’ – due to coaching and broadcast requirements.

At the Grand Final launch, Hull KR head coach Willie Peters said: “For our club to sell 10,000 tickets in just a few hours after the semi-finals says so much about our fanbase and how excited they are to be a part of the Grand Final for the first time.”

Wigan head coach Matt Peet added: “Willie’s got them playing fantastically well and everything that is coming out of Hull KR at the moment is positive. They are a club that is here to compete for a long time and it has got the makings of a fantastic occasion on and off the field.”

Their initial 10,000 allocation was almost immediately snapped up by supporters after their win over Warrington Wolves in the semi-final, and the club have confirmed that further blocks have been made available for their supporters in their first Super League Grand Final.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Wigan confirmed, via Twitter: “Wigan Warriors have sold out of our initial allocation for the Betfred Super League Grand Final.

“A further allocation has been requested and further details will be available in due course.”

Alongside the fans of the two teams, there will be a huge number of neutral fans packed into Old Trafford.

This is another welcome increased attendance in rugby league’s showpiece events, after the Challenge Cup final between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves also saw the highest attendance since 2017.
