Wakefield Trinity have secured the long-term future of forward Matty Storton in what comes as a big boost for the club.
Storton is highly thought of at Belle Vue having joined the club from Hull KR ahead of last season and after penning a new four-year deal with the club, he will be sticking around until the end of the 2029 season at least.
The forward, who can play at prop or second-row, had his injury issues last season but he still managed to star in the 15 games he played under Daryl Powell, with four tries coming along the way.
Storton boasts plenty of experience, too, having made 105 appearances for Hull KR during his five years at the club, while he featured 31 times for Bradford Bulls as a youngster.
He’ll be looking to add to that this year and help Wakefield build on what was an impressive first season back in Super League last time around.
Matty Storton pens new Wakefield Trinity deal
“Wakefield Trinity is a great club, from the fans to the coaching staff and to Matt and his family,” Storton said after securing his future. “It’s the best decision I ever made joining the club.
“We’ve signed some really good players, and we have a big core of players along with myself that are now signed up long term. The more that we stay together both on and off the field, we’ll just continue to improve as a group and hopefully we can strive for some silverware this season.”
Trinity head coach Powell said: “I’m delighted that Matty has agreed to an extension to his contract.
“He’s been a pleasure to have around and his form last year was some of the best I’ve seen him have in his career. I’m looking forward to seeing him grow and drive his standards even further to become one of the premier back rowers in Super League.”
Director of rugby Ste Mills added: “We are delighted to tie Matty down to a long term deal, he started last season like a house on fire and we can all see what a player he can become with us. Being able to play in the second row or the middle gives us some versatility, we are looking forward to watching him grow in the coming years.”
