Huge opportunity for Leeds Rhinos to poach NRL star

Leeds Rhinos have reportedly been chasing Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks.

Brooks is out of contract at the end of 2023 and has had a topsy turvy time at the Tigers lately.

Former Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils star Jackson Hastings joined the club last year but was let go.

The Tigers offered Brooks a new deal but he has turned down a new deal.

This week it was claimed that Brooks was headed to North Queensland Cowboys as per Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield.

“I think it was a statement recruitment decision that they’re never going to overpay a footballer again and they won’t budge off $550,000 for Brooks and I applaud them for that,” Rothfield said on NRL 360.

“The mail I have is that Luke Brooks is very likely to finish up at the North Queensland Cowboys, he played Holden Cup in a premiership winning side with Todd Payten a while back, they’re very, very tight.

“There’s a lot of mail now that Chad Townsend is being shopped around to English Super League clubs and a couple of NRL clubs in Sydney as well.”

However, North Queensland have now denied this leaving the door wide open for the Rhinos.

However, it means that the Cowboys will likely keep hold of Townsend.
