Huge NRL star on list of available players sent to Super League clubs

The likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and Hull KR have all made big transfer announcements in the last month and they may not be done yet.

One area all Super League clubs will look to is the NRL and the stars they can lure over to the UK. Wigan have already brought back former Huddersfield Giants and Leeds star Kruise Leeming for next year.

Meanwhile, Hull KR are bringing in Peta Hiku and Oliver Gildart for the 2024 season.

Warrington on the other hand beat Newcastle Knights to the signature of Lachlan Fitzgibbon.

However, interestingly it has now been revealed that one of the NRL’s biggest star was on a list of players sent to UK clubs.

NRL star Payne Haas has led the Dally M Medal leaderboard at times in 2023 after a sensational start to the season and has also been offered a mega deal by Rugby Australia to switch codes and play rugby union according to the Daily Mail.

Off contract at the end of 2024 the brilliant forward has been able to negotiate with rival clubs since November and that includes rugby union as well.

He has been offered a $1.2 million deal according to the Mail but some reports claim it could be as much as $1.6 million.

Though staying in the NRL or going to rugby union seems like the two most likely options, he was indeed on a list of players circulated to Super League clubs as confirmed by his agent.

“We have discussed it and we are going to wait until November 1. His (preference) is to stay in Brisbane. He also understands that there are other opportunities so he wants to look at those opportunities when they present themselves and then go from there – weigh up the pros and cons and go from there,” his agent said in the Daily Telegraph.

“We hear the rumours as well about Australian rugby and the Bulldogs.

“I can tell you it is all just hearsay. We do our usual rounds of sending a list to all the clubs in the NRL and in the UK saying these are the players coming off in 2024 and they are up for negotiation on November 1.

“They all respond with the same response – keen to talk about Payne. I think Payne’s concerns last year (with Brisbane) were about being in a competitive team.

“I know he wants to tick boxes and I am allowing those boxes to be ticked. He is ticking boxes at the moment – they are winning, he is in a competitive side.

“I know why he wants to play for Kevvie – Kevvie is a gentleman. Commercially he will wait until November 1.”
