Huddersfield Giants sit bottom of Super League without a win and this week’s disciplinary verdict has just made their problems even worse.
The Giants had travelled to face Salford on Thursday night as Super League’s two winless sides faced off against each other but sadly for Luke Robinson, it was Huddersfield who left the game still without a win.
Salford controlled the match as they won 23-10 with those ten points being consolation scores in a match that looked over as a contest well before half time.
That was a change from normal with the Giants having previously led at the half in every round of Super League so far, however, Thursday saw them start slow and struggle throughout leaving Huddersfield boss Robinson to label it as the “worst performance of the season”.
Unfortunately, matters have now been made worse for Huddersfield with the Match Review Panel handing down a two-match ban to one of the Giants’ star players.

England international Oliver Wilson has been handed a Grade D charge for ‘Head Contact’ which has drawn a two-match ban and a fine, meaning he will miss the game against Hull KR in Round Six and their Round Seven home game against Catalans Dragons.
It’s a massive blow for the Giants as Wilson has been one of their standout performers this year and in recent seasons and it also hits them in a position where they are already hurt.
George King is yet to make his debut after suffering injury in the off-season whilst Tom Burgess is also out at the moment, which has meant Wilson has had to be the senior figure among a group of props featuring young Fenton Rogers and Jack Billington.
Not only was Wilson handed the standard 12 penalty points for a Grade D charge, he also copped a further three as the incident resulted in a Salford player failing a HIA and that means those points will potentially punish him down the line if and when he next offends.
It’s just more bad luck for Huddersfield who have suffered horrendously with injuries with the likes of Adam Clune and Zac Woolford both out for extended periods, whilst fellow spine players Kieran Rush and Jacob Gagai have also missed time.
Their new signing Niall Evalds also went off injured on Thursday night with a suspected broken foot, highlighting just how unfortunate the club have been with injuries and now suspensions.
It also doesn’t get any easier with unbeaten Hull KR visiting the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday, a match where the Giants will be huge underdogs.
