Ian Watson has finalised his pre-season with games against Dewsbury Rams and Hull KR.

The Huddersfield Giants head coach has been in his first week back in pre-season as he attempts to steer the West Yorkshire side further up the table following a disappointing 2021 Super League season.

The Giants finished ninth with nine wins from 24 games, but began to put a bit of form together towards the back end of the season and Watson has spoken about how excited he is ahead of his second year in charge at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“I’ve an idea how I’ll be looking to use the three games with the squad already and without a doubt at the Hull KR game will look to field a side made up of players who will most certainly feature in Round One,” Watson told the Huddersfield website.

“We’ve a lot of work to get through before we get to the opener versus Dewsbury so its far too early to say who’ll be available for that one and who not but I do want if at all possible our players to all have had game time ahead of the seasons start in early February.

“At the moment we’ve had three decent days training as the players bodies get used again to the intensity of full time training but that will pick up quite considerably in the coming weeks as the loads increase.”

Three of Watson’s new signings, however, have not been in this week – or have not trained fully.

“We’ve still a few to come back of course with Sebastine, Theo and Chris Hill shortly having their base tests ahead of starting fully a week on Monday which will leave just Danny Levi to come into the UK.

“He has had his VISA meeting and is waiting on the paperwork clearing and we hope to see him physically in the first week of December.”
