Huddersfield Giants vs Wakefield Trinity: Team news, match preview and score prediction

A West Yorkshire derby with very little to play for other than local pride with both sides securing their position in the table already with Huddersfield set for a third place finish – their second highest ever – and Wakefield remarkably settled in 10th after spending most of the year battling to stay above 12th.

For Wakefield this represents a chance for them to maintain their momentum so that they have something to build on in 2023.

As for Huddersfield, they can pick up a 12th home win of the season generating momentum going into the play-offs.

Team News

Huddersfield welcome back Chris McQueen, Seb Ikahihifo and Michael Lawrence to the mix. Theo Fages meanwhile remains absent after a head knock against Leeds.

Jacob Miller, Tinirau Arona, Yusuf Aydin and David Fifita could all make their farewell appearances this week as they all head towards pastures new. There’s still no Liam Hood through suspension as Lee Kershaw comes back into the mix.

Match Preview – Key Battles:

Leroy Cudjoe vs Lewis Murphy: Leroy Cudjoe has done a terrific job since filling in on the wing but will have a tough job on his hands to contain the brilliant and in form Lewis Murphy – Super League’s next superstar winger.

Olly Russell vs Jacob Miller: Two halfbacks at opposite ends of their careers but with huge similarities due to their ability to be both organiser and creator. It’s the perfect learning experience for Russell whilst Miller will be looking to bow out with a win.

Will Pryce vs Mason Lino: Live wire halfbacks will add some real flavour alongside the methodical Miller and Russell. Both men can win a game in an instant and it’ll be brilliant to see their skills play centre stage.

Where the game will be won and lost:

Although Wakefield are in good form at present, Huddersfield are a well oiled machine rolling into the play-offs and if they stick to their processes they will likely claim the win.

Score Prediction: Huddersfield Giants 28-12 Wakefield Trinity
