Huddersfield Giants vs Salford Red Devils: Team news, match preview and score prediction

Tomorrow’s exciting Super League play-off game is set to still go ahead despite the sad passing of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II, and I’m sure Huddersfield and Salford will conjure up a fitting tribute for her.

After taking Salford all the way to the Grand Final in 2019, Ian Watson is hoping to do the same with Huddersfield again from third in the league. But standing in his way is his former side who, like they did in 2019, are riding the crest of a wave. Under Paul Rowley they’re one of the best teams in league to watch and their attacking style means they can beat anyone on their day, including Watson’s Giants as they did a few weeks ago.

So, will the Red Devils recreate their 2019 fairytale or will the man who penned that story tear out the final page of Salford’s 2022 romp in favour of Huddersfield’s own Grand Final dream.

Team News

Huddersfield are boosted by the return of a former Salford star. The man in question is Theo Fages. The two-time Grand Final winner is back just in time to use his play-off expertise to hopefully guide Huddersfield to glory. His return does mean Will Pryce won’t feature. Meanwhile, Watson has a choice to make on the right edge with Ash Golding, Leroy Cudjoe and Toby King vying for the two spots out wide.

The Red Devils are back to full strength after many of their stars were rested against Warrington. Meanwhile, Dan Sarginson misses out as does Greg Burke, and Harvey Livett.

Match Preview – Key Battles:

Tui Lolohea vs Ryan Brierley: Tui Lolohea has received rave reviews all seasons and rightly so but Ryan Brierley hasn’t received quite as many plaudits but has also had a terrific season. Both are able to create tries for the outside backs and are an attacking threat themselves.

Theo Fages vs Brodie Croft: The man who took on Tui Lolohea’s number six jersey following his departure, Brodie Croft has really caught the eye and has even been nominated for the Man of Steel award. A great runner and creator, but he’ll be up against a terrific organiser in Theo Fages who could nullify Salford’s attacking threat.

Danny Levi vs Andy Ackers: The lively and elusive Danny Levi takes on the brilliant Andy Ackers in a battle between two of the in form nines of the season. The one who can control the ruck could determine the result.

Where the game will be won and lost:

You won’t find two more contrasting teams in terms of style. So, which style will take control? It could be all about energy. After playing every possible game this season, do the Giants have the energy to implement their usual processes and starve Salford of attacking intent or will Salford bring the greateter energy and stretch the Giants and open up the game.

Score Prediction: Huddersfield Giants 18-26 Salford Red Devils
