Huddersfield Giants vs Salford Red Devils: Team news, match preview and score prediction

A few weeks ago this would have seemed like a foregone conclusion, but Salford’s uptick in form coupled with Huddersfield shock and comprehensive defeat to Castleford the Giants look beatable here.

Salford have shown resolve all season especially last week and also have attacking prowess.

So, the Giants will have to be on top form to ensure they avoid defeat and don’t endure a repeat of their shock magic defeat to Salford 10 years ago.

Team News

The Giants could have to do without key prop Oliver Wilson who has caught the eye this year after he copped a knee injury against Castleford but has been included in the 21-man. However, they have a huge boost in the return of Theo Fages to the squad who could figure against his former side. Toby King could make his second appearance for his home town team.

For Salford, Ackers is named despite coming off during last week’s victory over Salford. Joe Burgess is also named again despite not featuring last week against Warrington. Greg Burke and Elijah Taylor return to boost Salford’s forward options.

Match Preview – Key Battles:

Tui Lolohea vs Ryan Brierley: A former Salford star, Tui Lolohea will want to remind the Red Devils what they’re missing and will do so if he can continue his 2022 form. A creative spark for the Giants he’s the key but only if he can get things ticking. Ryan Brierley is a very handy player too. He can create and score and will look to cause Huddersfield major problems.

Will Pryce vs Brodie Croft: Two halfbacks very willing to run with the ball and make breaks, they’re superb assets to their team’s attack and could create some all time great Magic Weekend moments.

Ashton Golding vs Chris Atkin: Both Golding and Atkin underrated substitutes who cover a wide range of positions but often liven things up at nine, these two could change the game late on especially Atkin who did so at Warrington on Sunday.

Where the game will be won and lost:

If Huddersfield nail their processes, you feel they can beat anyone. But if Salford can disrupt them and get their exciting attack in gear they could cause the upset especially owing to their aforementioned resolve.

Score Prediction: Huddersfield Giants 22-14 Salford Red Devils
