Huddersfield Giants 36-24 Castleford Tigers: Highlights, player ratings & talking points

Huddersfield Giants hosted Castleford Tigers at the John Smith’s Stadium this Saturday afternoon.

It was an incredible first-half from Huddersfield, who ran into an 18-0 lead at half-time, only to be pegged back by a resilient Castleford who once led 24-18.

The Giants then took advantage of a yellow card to Castleford’s George Lawler to score another two tries to lead 30-24.

And, Ricky Leutele notched his hat-trick to win the game 36-24.

Highlights

Castleford’s fourth try of the afternoon was the best of the bunch. A superb break by Greg Eden was backed up by Jake Trueman who dropped down under the posts.

Will Pryce’s two touchline conversions when the pressure was on were incredible to watch.

Talking points

1. Danny Levi’s yellow card

Much has been said this season of the increasing punishments for foul play, but Huddersfield hooker Danny Levi can count himself hard done by for a yellow card on Joe Westerman. It was a late push by Levi, but it as incredibly difficult to pull out of.

2. Tale of two halves

Whilst Huddersfield won the first-half 18-0, Castleford stormed into a 24-18 lead at one stage. Where was that performance in the first-half Lee Radford will have been asking?

3. Yellow card changed the game

A stupid tackle from George Lawler on Owen Trout saw the former sinbinned and with that went the game. From there, the momentum shifted dramatically with the Giants scoring three unanswered tries.
