Huddersfield Giants v Hull KR verdict is in following Sunday afternoon’s match at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The home side are struggling with both injuries and suspensions at the moment, with Adam Clune, Zac Woolford, Jack Murchie, George King, Liam Sutcliffe and Niall Evalds sidelined through injury and Oliver Wilson misses out through suspension for Huddersfield.
Hull KR head coach has only made one change to the side that beat Leigh Leopards 30-0 last Sunday.
Arthur Mourgue makes his debut for the Robins with fill-in fullback Jack Broadbent moving to the wing and Joe Burgess dropping out of the match-day squad after a bout of illness.
Hull KR continue their 100% record as Mikey Lewis masterclass on display
Hull KR opened up the scoring in the sixth minute following a turnover. Halfback Mikey Lewis made a break down the left-hand side and shrugged off multiple Huddersfield defenders before passing back in on his right to centre Oliver Gildart for his fifth try of the Super League season. Arthur Mourgue’s conversion gave the Robins a 6-0 lead.
Huddersfield responded down the same side just a few minutes later. George Flanagan might have been caught out in defence a little but he caught Lewis on his outside shoulder to run and threw a dummy on Mouruge to run from the halfway line to score. Flanagan missed the conversion.
Mikey Lewis tried again down the left and he got his own back on Flanagan. He bopped him off and turned to put the ball over the line. Mourgue scored the conversion for a 12-4 Hull KR lead.
Lewis made his third break down Rovers’ left side to gain his side some decent field position following an interception on Flanagan’s kick. Hull KR moved the ball across the field for Mourgue to go over on the right side. He failed to convert his debut try as KR took a 16-4 lead after half an hour of play.
It took Hull KR ten minutes into the second half to score and once again, Lewis made yet another break down their left-hand side finding a gap between Flanagan and Jake Bibby out wide, with Jai Whitbread getting on the end of his pass and running twenty metres to score. Mourgue converted for a 22-4 Rovers lead.
Jez Litten was next on the scoresheet for the Robins as Lewis held up three defenders to offload inside for Litten to go over in a wide gap in the Huddersfield line. With Mourgue’s conversion, it gave Hull KR a 28-4 lead.
Litten set up Rovers’ next try as he passed to Sauaso Sue from dummy half in a trademark Sue score for his first try of the season so far. He ran through two defenders to put the ball down next to the post, with Mourgue’s conversion giving them a 34-4 lead.
We got to see a glimpse of Mourgue and Lewis’ combination and where that could go in 2025. Mourgue’s broke on the right and Lewis was there in support. He received the inside pass to score his second of the afternoon. Another Mourgue conversion took Rovers to the 40-point mark.
Lewis completed his hattrick with five minutes to go as Gildart made another break down the left and Lewis was supporting again on his inside shoulder for a 44-4 lead.
Rovers ran riot straight from the kick-off as they decided to go down the right this time. Peta Hiku started the break before passing back inside to Mourgue and Tryone May. May kicked out wide for Tom Davies to collect and get himself on the scoresheet. Mourgue’s conversion meant the Rovers hit fifty points and completed a 50-4 victory in Huddersfield.

Good day for
Mikey Lewis. Rovers were far from perfect in this victory but as always, Mikey Lewis has started off this season as he finished the last. We all know about Mikey Lewis’ qualities and again today he showed why Shaun Wane should be giving him a call for the Ashes series at the end of the season. He terrorised Huddersfield’s right-hand edge, with youngster George Flanagan bearing the brunt of a lot of his fends during a clean break.
Bad day for
Huddersfield’s second-half performance again. At 16-4 down at half-time, the Giants looked to be containing Hull KR’s attack but yet again, they capitulated in the second half. There were far too many gaps across their defensive line and Mikey Lewis especially exposed them constantly on the Giants’ right edge. In the last half an hour, they conceded X tries.
Star man
Mikey Lewis. It couldn’t really be anybody else as everything he touches right now is turning to gold. Whilst his kicking game has definitely improved, it was his running game that was most impressive today. He was spotting gaps in the Giants defence nearly every five minutes. To add to that, he grabbed himself a hat-trick too.

No matter how good Mickey Lewis is there is little chance Shaun Wane will pick him for the England side. He doesn’t play for Wigan, St Helens, or Warrington, and that excludes him and any others from selection. He won’t be the only player affected, we’ve seen it before, although Liam Marshall must have done something horrific not to get picked regularly. The bulk of the England team will come from just those certain three teams. Players having amazing seasons at the two Hull clubs, Wakefield, Leeds, Leigh notably, might as well book a post season holiday now while they can get a good deal.
Oh yes, in the mid season game those players might get a run out, but in the series against Australia, not a chance,
