This time of year is full of cliches.

Whenever you hear a player talk, they tell you that pre-season is going really well and there is nothing wrong with that.

After all this gets the fans believing and dreaming about what the new Super League season could deliver.

However, there is something refreshing when a player comes out and admits that at times pre-season doesn’t go according to plan.

It is impossible for every day of training to go well, even at the highest level, and that is what Huddersfield Giants’ skipper Luke Yates revealed when talking on the club’s Twitter page today.

Yates admitted that yesterday the Giants’ dipped below their standards resulting in them even reviewing the video and seeing them up the intensity today resulting in the best session of the year.

This honesty will stand the Giants in a good position for next season when they could be in the mix for the League Leaders’ Sheild.

Here is what Yates had to say about pre-season:

“I think we had a bit of dip in yesterday’s sessions and we copped it a bit yesterday after the session, we did a video session after which we typically wouldn’t do but it was necessary to get the quality back up.

“I think it was probably the best session of the year probably today, it was good timing as we’re heading over to Spain so we can build on that next week.”
