Huddersfield Giants star trio return but Luke Robinson sees three more ruled out

Huddersfield Giants head coach Luke Robinson

Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson has delivered good and bad injury news ahead of Sunday’s clash with Wigan Warriors. The Giants are without a win in Super League at present and Robinson has high hopes of being able to welcome three key men back into the fold.

The fitness of Adam Clune comes as a major boost for Huddersfield, with the half-back returning to full training for the first time since last season. He could be joined in the West Yorkshire outfit’s line-up by off-season recruits Liam Sutcliffe and Taane Milne, who are both waiting to make their Super League bows for the club.

Sutcliffe has been struggling with a foot injury but he has the green light to play, while Milne has been back in Australia for the birth of his child and a small procedure of his own.

However, while Robinson will approach the clash with replenished numbers in the backs, a trio of fresh injuries in the pack pose new selection questions with Joe Greenwood, Zac Woolford and Matty English all ruled out.

“We’ve got a few out and a few coming back so it’s like three in, three out really,” Robinson told BBC Radio Leeds. “Cluney is looking pretty good, pretty sharp and it’s really nice to get him on board, we’d have loved to have had him last week. He’s not trained with us pretty much since September last year so really good to have him on the field and available.

“Sutcliffe got through training unscathed and it looks like he could be available. Taane Milne is obviously a little bit behind with his running and metres in his legs because he’s obviously been at home for the birth of his child and he’s had a clean out of his knee, so he hasn’t done much running.

“He’s been training this week and potentially could be out there for us.”

The Huddersfield boss continued: “I’m not sure if someone has a little voodoo doll of me in a little Giants shirt but three in and unfortunately three out. Joe Greenwood did his knee and he’ll be out for six weeks.

“Zac Woolford will be out for eight to 10 weeks with his ankle. He’ll go see a specialist today and have an operation on this ankle. The other one is Matty English did his shoulder in the game so he’ll be absent. Literally as soon as you start getting troops back on board, three in, three out.”
