Huddersfield Giants half-back Adam Clune has been ruled out for the rest of the season, Luke Robinson has confirmed.

Clune has had a wretched season in claret and gold, making just six appearances for the Giants after struggling with a series of injuries. The half-back missed a majority of pre-season and the first few games of the Super League campaign with a calf injury and damaged his hamstring on his return to the fold against Wigan Warriors.

Another two months went by before Clune featured again, strapping up to help the Giants to their first win of the year at Magic Weekend against Hull FC. He featured in the four games that followed but pulled up against Wigan on Saturday at Dewsbury with another hamstring complaint.

The injury has been scanned and examined and Clune can now expect to miss the next three to four months of action which at this stage, rules him out for the remainder of the season.

Huddersfield Giants boss on Adam Clune blow

“He’s out for the year. He’s had a torrid time has Cluney,” Robinson confirmed in his pre-match press conference.

“He came back for pre-season from Australia. He’d gone to Australia fit but came back injured, then re-did it on his return, and was out again.

“He’s obviously one of our key signings but he’s only managed to play five games this year which is really disappointing for him and for us.

“He did his hamstring. He’s been back four weeks and we’ve looked at his loading patterns and everything else and sometimes it’s just not meant to be.

“He went into a tackle and pulled his leg and the hamstring went so the prognosis is three to four months which is devastating from a personal perspective from him but also for us.

“He’s a key player for us who looked like he was actually starting to build something which Tui (Lolohea) but we’ve got a capable replacement in Frawls (Matt Frawley).”
